Sustainable Project Management: Interview with David Smyth of GPM Global

Project Managers need to be thinking about sustainability and sustainable project management in all their forms. GPM Global is at the forefront of establishing standards and processes to help us. I spoke to their Executive Vice President, David Smyth.

This video is safe for viewing in the workplace.

This is learning, so, sit back and enjoy

Sustainable Project Management

I ask David Smyth about:

  • Defining terms: what David means when he speaks about ‘Green Project Management’ and ‘Sustainable Project Management’.
GPM - Extended Triple Bottom Line & Time-Cost-Scope
  • GPM Global’s P5 Standard, which gives a simple introduction to the scope of Green Project Management. David talks us through an outline of what P5 is all about.

  • Why Project Professionals should engage actively with the ideas of Green Project Management. Aside from the obvious importance of the environment and sustainability in general, what is the case for this as a part of professional practice?
  • For a Project Manager watching this video and wanting to up their game, what are some practical steps they can take to build sustainability into their projects and their professional practice?
  • Where can people learn more about this topic, so they can bring rigor and expertise to the way they integrate sustainable practices into their work?
