How APM Sees The Future of the Project Profession

With the publication of the 8th Edition of APM’s Body of Knowledge, I wanted to know what it tells us about how Association for Project Management sees the future of the project profession. So, I spoke with APM CEO, Professor Adam Boddison.

This video is safe for viewing in the workplace.

This is learning, so, sit back and enjoy

Professor Adam Boddison

Adam Boddison joined Association for Project Management as its CEO in September 2021, having formerly held CEO and senior executive roles in multiple educational organisations. APM is the only chartered membership organisation representing the project profession in the world. In addition, it acts as a certificating body, a campaigning organization, and an important publisher of top-tier books for the profession.

Adam is an educator and an administrator. Under his leadership, I have observed APM go from strength to strength, launching valuable initiatives like Future Lives and Landscapes, and rebuilding a strong relationship with its sibling organisation, the PMI, based in the US. Beyond APM, Adam is an author, visiting professor, and active volunteer with a particular interest in helping children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

The Future of the Project Profession

I asked Adam:

  1. Creating a new edition of the Body of Knowledge is a lot of work. It has taken over two years to create it, and I was privileged to be part of the writing team. So, can you give us an insight into why APM commits to creating a Body of Knowledge?
  2. Each edition has been an advance on the last, and the 8th edition is no different. What are the big changes you would like to highlight?
  3. What does the content of this edition tell us about how APM sees the profession today?
  4. APM typically refreshes its Body of Knowledge every six years or so. How does APM anticipate the profession will evolve over the coming years?
  5. What role is APM playing in driving and responding to those changes?
  6. Finally, how can people learn more about the APM and what it does, and get a copy of the APM Body of Knowledge?

What Kit does a Project Manager Need?

I asked Project Managers in a couple of forums what material things you need to have, to do your job as a Project Manager. They responded magnificently. I compiled their answers into a Kit list. Then, I added my own.
