Here is a small New Year gift for you. Our new 2023 Periodic Table of Project Management.
My First Periodic Table of Project Management
I first produced a Periodic Table of Project Management back in December 2013, as a marketing asset for the launch of my then-new book, How to Manage a Great Project.
This is a book that I am still enormously proud of.
It is the perfect book for anyone who wants to get started in Project Management. It is especially good for people who are given their first project and need to understand the basics, quickly.
I structured it around my 8 Step Process:
- What is Your Project all About?
- Does Your Project Make Sense?
- Who Will Determine Your Success or Failure?
- How Will You Deliver Your Project?
- Engage Your Project Team
- Shift Happens! So, Prepare for it
- Stay in Control During Implementation
- Close Your Project in an Orderly Way
So, Let’s See that early Periodic Table of Project Management

My plan was to spruce it up a bit and give it a 10th-anniversary refresh. A nicer design, maybe.
But then, I started to think about ways I could improve the content. Before I knew it, I was cutting out bits of paper and making a mess of the dining room table.
The outcome was surprisingly pleasing…
The New Periodic Table of Project Management
With a few minor tweaks, I ended up with my new, 2023 Periodic Table of Project Management…
