This is a short introduction to what Project Management is, and the definition of Project from Dr Mike Clayton, author of ‘How to Manage a Great Project’, and founder of OnlinePMCourses.
This is a video from our Core Course program.
The definition of Project that Mike will give you in this video is:
A Project is a co-ordinated set of tasks, which together create a defined new product, process, or service, within a constrained time and resource budget.
This definition is based on the nature of a Project. It is these characteristics that mean you need a set of tools, techniques and process to deal with the uncertainty that they lead to.
That set of tools and techniques is what we refer to as Project Management.
Another way to look at the definition of Project is to when to use Project management techniques. This is the subject of a complementary article, called: What You Need to Know about When to Use Project Management.
Do you ever need to deal with uncertainty, co-ordnation, budget limitations, or deadlines in your daily or work life? Of course you do. Project Management skills are really core life skills.
